Once you have downloaded an SVG cut file, getting it into Cricut Design Space is quick once you know the steps. Here is the full process for both desktop and mobile.

Step 1: Unzip your download Most SVG files arrive in a ZIP folder, often bundled with PNG and DXF versions. On a computer, right-click the ZIP and choose Extract All. On a phone or tablet, use your files app to unzip it. You want the file ending in .svg.

Step 2: Upload to Design Space (desktop) 1. Open Design Space and start a new project. 2. Click Upload in the left-hand panel. 3. Click Upload Image, then Browse, and select your .svg file. 4. Give it a name and tags if you like, then click Upload. 5. Your design appears in your Recently Uploaded list. Select it and click Add to Canvas.

Step 3: Upload on mobile In the Design Space app, tap Upload, then the green plus, then choose your SVG from your files. The app imports it the same way and adds it to your canvas.

Step 4: Ungroup to edit layers A well-made SVG imports as a grouped set of layers. To change colors or work with individual pieces, select the design and tap Ungroup. Now you can recolor layers, resize, or delete parts you do not need.

Step 5: Size and cut Resize the design to your project, then click Make It. Design Space shows each color on its own mat. Load your material, set the correct material setting, and cut.

A quick tip If your SVG imports as a single flat shape with no separate layers, the file was poorly made. Quality files keep their layers intact so you can weed and assemble them easily, which is exactly what you should expect from a good shop.
