How to Create a Gallery Wall You'll Love
By Frame & Pixel Studio · 1 min read
A gallery wall turns a blank stretch of wall into a focal point full of personality. It can feel intimidating to arrange, but with a simple plan, anyone can create a display that looks balanced and professionally styled. Printable art makes it especially easy and affordable.
Pick a cohesive theme
The prints do not all have to match, but they should share something: a color palette, a subject like botanicals or maps, or a consistent style such as line art. A unifying thread keeps a mix of pieces from looking random.
Plan the layout on the floor first
Before you put a single hole in the wall, lay your framed prints on the floor and arrange them until the composition feels balanced. A common approach is a tight grid for a clean look, or an organic cluster anchored by one larger piece for a relaxed feel.
Trace and tape
Trace each frame onto kraft paper or newspaper, cut out the shapes, and tape them to the wall with painter's tape. This lets you preview the arrangement and adjust spacing without nail holes. Aim for consistent gaps, around two to three inches between frames.
Anchor to a line
Hang your arrangement around an imaginary center line at eye level, roughly 57 inches from the floor to the center of the grouping. Anchoring to a line keeps even an irregular cluster feeling intentional.
Mix sizes and orientations
Vary print sizes and combine portrait and landscape pieces to create rhythm and interest. A wall of identical frames can look flat, while thoughtful variety feels curated.
Hang and adjust
Use proper hooks and a level. Once everything is up, step back, live with it a day, and tweak as needed.
